Meladerm

Two things we immediately liked about Meladerm are the straight talking they do in the FAQ on their web page, and also the pages and pages of testimonials – you can almost kill an entire evening just reading the success stories for this product.

To see if this was just cheap talk, we did an exhaustive search through the entire internet to find independent user reviews on major skin care forums and other authority sites. We counted all the positive and negative reviews and did some math.

The result? Meladerm gets an overall positive review percentage of 77%. In other words, almost 8 out of every 10 people who try Meladerm has a positive experience with the product. That is a phenomenal success rate for a product in the skin lightening/discoloration/uneven skin tone market.

Let’s see what out own Meladerm review revealed.

meladerm

Eager to put it to the test, we first got a cup of coffee and did some ingredient watching before getting down to the nitty gritty.

Ingredients:

Meladerm contains no less than 10 active whitening ingredients. Kojic Acid, Alpha-Arbutin, Niacinamide, Mulberry Extract, Bearberry Extract, Licorice Extract, Tego® Cosmo C250, Gigawhite, Lemon Juice Extract, Emblica Extract. At least three of these have clinical studies to back up their effectiveness. Whether it’s really necessary to have so many active ingredients together, and whether more ingredients really provide more benefits, is perhaps open to debate.

Unfortunately we also noticed some synthetic preservatives called parabens, as well as synthetic fragrance in the ingredients, which increases the risk of irritation on very sensitive skin types, depending on the formulation of the fragrance.

UPDATEMeladerm has recently revised their ingredients and the cream is now paraben-free.

Performance:

In our trial with the product, dark skin pigmentation on the shoulders of one of our former sun worshippers (she finally realized spending excessive time in the sun was a bad idea when these spots started forming!) started showing visible reduction after about 17 days of use.

After 30 days about a 30% reduction had been achieved. No irritation or any other obvious side effects were experienced. While this is a limited test on only one of the conditions Meladerm claims to remedy, it shows that the product can indeed lighten darker skin. It’s also good news that it’s possible to see results within the guarantee period if that’s a concern for you, although these results may not be typical.

The product feels very light on the skin and also seems to have a decent moisturizing effect.

Again, different skin types will experience different results. Some people see results in as little as 3 days, while others have to stick to it for two months or more, and yet others may see no results at all.

When it comes to skin care you often just have to bite the bullet and commit to whatever you’re using for a few months in order to see optimal results. In our experience very few skin care products produce their best results in anything less than 90 days, and Meladerm might not be doing themselves any favors by claiming results in 14 days. Probably only a small part of their customer base will actually be lucky enough to experience that.

Meladerm – Conclusion:

Overall, Meladerm seems to deliver on its promise, and they have hundreds of testimonials on their site to back up our personal findings. The product contains natural skin lightening ingredients, but unfortunately there are a few parabens (After a recent ingredient change Meladerm is now paraben-free) and synthetic fragrance present, which is disappointing.

Seeing as this product isn’t meant to be used for years on end, we can live with it though.

And a final word before the verdict – please protect yourself against the sun when using any skin lightening cream because they will make your skin more prone to sun damage. Use an SPF30 sunscreen and don’t spend more time in direct sunlight than you absolutely need to.
